Democracy [diˈmäkrəsē] noun ( pl. -cies) | Definition: a system of government by the whole population
Origin: from Greek, dēmos ‘the people’ + kratia ‘power, rule.’
Since the birth of our democracies, we have entrusted politicians with the full management of our countries. We have given them total control over the executive and the legislative branch of our governments. We did this only because we had no other viable choice at the time.
Over 200 years later, our countries are in a total mess. Stock market crashes, followed by housing market crashes, financial system crashes, environmental decay, budgetary crisis, followed by rising inflation, rising unemployment, rising taxes, and rising dissatisfaction. Let's face it: the successive management teams have been doing a terrible job at running our countries.
It is time for a drastic change in the way our democracy should work. We should no longer rely on / trust politicians and we no longer have to. For the first time in history, we have the ability to peacefully regain control of our legislative system with the help of modern technology and the participation of all wishing to help.
In many countries, we have seen how corruptible politicians can become when elected into positions of power. In our congress or parliament, a small group of corrupted politicians can have a catastrophic impact on the present and the future of the country and its citizens. Laws should be voted according to democratic principles and not personal gains. The easiest way to ensure that corruption can no longer be in charge of choosing our laws, is to simply transfer the voting power back in the hand of the people. One may be able to surreptitiously buy the votes of the majority of a parliament, but never of a whole direct democratic nation.
As a collective, we are incorruptible and we have more skills, knowledge and wisdom than any small group of politicians. We can fix the mess we're in once we have the ability to decide which laws will govern our lives. There is no need to have a degree in law to understand and vote. Most of our elected representatives don't have such a degree anyway. Laws affect all areas of our lives. From health to education, from taxes to military actions, from food production to police mandates... All we need in order to vote wisely is to have the issues explained to us clearly by those who have knowledge and experiences in such issues. Teachers should be consulted prior to voting a law on education and so should parents. Nurses, doctors and other healers need to be consulted prior to voting a law on health and so should potential patients...
With the help of technology, we can vote for ourselves. We no longer need politicians representing us in congress or parliament. Together let's upgrade democracy!
